Sinaloa Lake
Sinaloa Lake is a neighborhood of about 165 homes wrapped around a private 12-acre lake in southwestern Simi Valley, between Sinaloa Golf Course and Sinaloa Road. The land was part of the Robertson family's Sinaloa Ranch. The family subdivided it, and the first homes went up in the mid-1950s on lots sold to individual buyers. It is still unincorporated county land, and residents do not vote in Simi Valley city elections.

Living in Sinaloa Lake
The Robertsons arrived in 1925 from Los Mochis, in the Mexican state of Sinaloa, where they had lived for six years, and named their 500-acre ranch after it. Hacienda Sinaloa grew tomatoes and tomato seed, Valencia oranges, walnuts, grapes and persimmons. Between 1925 and 1929 the family built an earthen dam to hold runoff in a natural basin for irrigation, and the reservoir was once called Robertson Lake. Lakeside owners formed the Sinaloa Lake Owners Association in the early 1960s and bought it. In early March 1983 storms caused slides on the dam face; about 1,400 nearby residents were evacuated for four days, and the state had the lake drained and the dam torn out. The owners sued the state, the county and the city, and after years in court the association recovered enough to rebuild the dam. The lake was refilled around 2000–01, and members fish it for bass and crappie.
Anticipating growth after North American Aviation (later Rocketdyne) arrived in 1955, Alan Robertson began selling lots, among them 27 around the rim called Sinaloa Lake Estates. Lots of about half an acre on Cadiz, Carmel, Capri and Hacienda drives make up the Lake View Tract (1956) and Hacienda Estates (1957), north and northeast of the water. Lots of about an acre on Laguna Drive, Laguna Way, Laguna Terrace, Irvine Road and Alta Mira Street line its south and east sides. Residents helped defeat Simi Valley's first cityhood vote in 1966, and the area was left out of the city when voters approved incorporation in 1969. Vista Lago Estates, 12 homes west of Madera Road, forms a second county pocket. Tract 2457 on Lake Court lies just to the south, inside the city.
The lay of the land
Rural-feeling county pocket of individually built homes on large lots around a private 12-acre lake, with narrow, winding county roads
County map indexes label Hacienda Estates as "Hacienda Tract." Vista Lago Estates is a separate unincorporated island west of Madera Road, and Tract 2457 is inside Simi Valley city limits. Both are listed here because the same Robertson family subdivided them, but neighbors may not think of them as part of Sinaloa Lake.
