About

Living in Indian Hills

The first homes, on Mohave and Maricopa drives near Alamo Street, went up in 1978–80 on maps filed by Westlands Development, Pacific Coast Properties and the Mayer Group. Indian Hills Associates, a Mayer Group partnership, recorded the upper units in November 1980, but nearly all the houses on Seneca Place, Klamath Avenue, Crazy Horse Drive and Geronimo Avenue went up in 1986–87. Two units first approved for condominiums were redrawn as house lots by Casden Properties in 1993, becoming White Cloud Estates (built 1996–2000) and Montaire (1999–2002), which has its own page.

Streets honor Native American nations and leaders, from Seneca and Shoshone to Crazy Horse, Geronimo and Sitting Bull, and most houses are two-story. Chumash Park sits at the top of Flanagan Drive, where the Chumash Trail sets off to meet the Rocky Peak Trail, and the North Ridge Trail can be reached from North Geronimo Avenue. Indian Hills has no known master homeowners association, and the Mayer Group's Indian Meadows (Tract 2992, about 130 homes, 1985–89) adjoins the neighborhood just south of Alamo Street.

The lay of the land

Hillside single-family neighborhood whose streets are named for Native American nations and leaders (Seneca, Shoshone, Chippewa, Crazy Horse, Geronimo, Sitting Bull); mostly two-story homes from 1978–80 and 1986–87, with trail access at Chumash Park

Builders named here are the owners of record on the county tract maps; the companies that built the 1986–87 and 1996–2000 houses may have been different. "Indian Hills Estates" and "Indian Hills Ridge" are names used in home sales without published boundaries; this guide matches them to map units by street.
