Living in Corriganville
The name comes from the movie ranch that actor and stuntman Ray 'Crash' Corrigan set up on land he bought in 1937. From 1949 to 1965 it opened to weekend crowds, with a Western street, a frontier fort and a Mexican village. Bob Hope bought it in 1965, and fires in 1970 and 1979 took nearly all the sets. The land is now Corriganville Park, run by the Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District, with trails off Smith Road that link to the Rocky Peak Trail.
Housing came in waves. The one-story Pride tracts and Golden Valley went up in the 1960s, while this was still county land. Tracts 1901 and 2151, Valley View, Richwood and Carlsberg Construction's Tract 2772 followed between 1972 and 1980. The 1980s brought the Indian Oaks, Katherine Gardens and Sandalwood Village condominiums, and Hopetown, Newcrest Oaks, Briarwood, The Arbors and Kuehner Homes arrived between 1995 and 2006. Knolls Elementary is on Katherine Road, as is the 1903 Santa Susana Depot, which was moved here and now serves as a museum.
