Simi Valley Unified serves the city of Simi Valley and nearby unincorporated parts of Ventura County, with 15,081 students counted on Census Day in October 2025. It runs 18 elementary schools, three middle schools, three high schools (Royal, Simi Valley and the Santa Susana magnet), Apollo continuation high school, Monte Vista School for independent study, an adult school and an early learning center. How schools are assigned
Most Simi Valley schools are neighborhood schools. The district posts three Google maps on its School Boundary Maps page: elementary (grades K–5), middle (6–8) and high school (9–12). Find your home on the map; the colored area it sits in is your boundary, and clicking the red pin shows the school's name. The elementary map shows 15 attendance areas, the middle school map shows Hillside, Sinaloa and Valley View, and the high school map shows Royal and Simi Valley High.
The district's Find MY School page also has a tool to look up your residential schools.
Six schools have no boundary and are not assigned by address: the Dual Language Academy at Arroyo Elementary (application and language assessment), Hollow Hills and Vista elementary schools (lottery), Santa Susana High School (application), and Apollo High School and Monte Vista School (administrative referral).
To enroll at your neighborhood school, the district says to call or visit that school's office, which will walk you through the forms. Students already enrolled in a district school do not need to do anything to stay at their neighborhood school. Transitional kindergarten is handled differently: TK placement is made by the District Office, not by the school.

Choosing a different school
Through School of Choice, students in kindergarten through grade 12 can apply to attend a neighborhood school other than their own. Almost every school takes part; the exceptions are the Hollow Hills and Vista fundamental schools, the Dual Language Academy at Arroyo and Santa Susana High School, which each have their own process. Applications are made online.
Students who live inside a school's boundary have first priority and do not apply. A school accepts outside students only while it has room, and when there are more applicants than open seats it holds a random lottery. Late applications go on a wait list kept by each school.
TK is not part of School of Choice. For 2026–27 the deadline was February 6, 2026. The 2027–28 School of Choice application opens November 3, 2026; the closing date had not been posted as of October 19, 2026.
The fundamental schools state that no district transportation is provided to them; the district's School of Choice page does not mention transportation for other transfers.
Programs and how students get in

- Fundamental schools: Hollow Hills and Vista elementary schools: kindergarten lottery, district residents only Families attend a tour or information night, then submit one paper application to one school's office; for 2026–27 the application window was January 6 to January 16, 2026 with the lottery on January 20, 2026, and unselected students go on a wait list.
- Santa Susana High School (magnet): online application and lottery For 2027–28, Early Action lottery applications are due by 4:00 p.m. on December 11, 2026, and Regular Decision applications run December 12, 2026 to 4:00 p.m. on February 5, 2027; later applications are considered as space permits.

Transfers and enrollment
Coming from (or leaving for) another district
Families who live outside the district first fill out a School of Choice application for the school they want, then complete an Interdistrict Transfer Permit that must be approved by their home district. Families in other Ventura County districts submit a paper form to their home district; families in Los Angeles Unified use LAUSD's online permit application (its window for 2026–27 ran February 1 to April 30, 2026); families elsewhere follow their home district's process. Once the home district approves, the permit goes to Simi Valley Unified.
The district may turn down permits when a grade level or program is full, using class-size averages it publishes (for example 23 students in grades K–3 and 35 in core classes in grades 6–12), when a student has been chronically absent, or when a student is under an expulsion order. An approved permit lasts through the highest grade at that school; a new one is needed when moving from TK to kindergarten, elementary to middle, or middle to high school, or after a change of address. Denials can be appealed within the district and then to the County Board of Education within 30 calendar days.
Only district residents may enter the fundamental school kindergarten lottery. Santa Susana High accepts out-of-district students, who apply for their permit after they are accepted. For families leaving Simi Valley, the window for 2027–28 requests is January 6 to April 23, 2027.
Enrolling
For kindergarten through grade 12, families enroll at their neighborhood school, which provides the forms; for 2026–27, neighborhood enrollment began February 9, 2026. Bring the enrollment form, a copy of the official county-issued birth certificate, proof of residency (a current electric, gas or water bill, or a lease or rental agreement) and up-to-date immunization records. Kindergarten students also need an oral health assessment from a dentist, and a health exam is recommended.
Transitional kindergarten packets are returned to the District Office at 101 West Cochran Street with proof of birth, proof of address, immunization records and a TK age eligibility form; for 2026–27, priority TK enrollment ran until March 20, 2026, and later packets were placed as space allowed. For 2026–27, TK was open to children born September 2, 2021, through September 1, 2022, and kindergarten to children born on or before September 1, 2021. The district holds annual TK and kindergarten information nights over Zoom (in December 2025 for the 2026–27 year).
TK and kindergarten are full-day and free, and so are student breakfast and lunch.
