Lake Manor

Lake Manor is a small unincorporated community in the rocky Simi Hills, where Box Canyon Road reaches the Los Angeles County line above Chatsworth. Its Ventura County side grew from Chatsworth Lake View Annex, a subdivision map recorded in May 1926 with Amos F. and Helen B. Mortimer among its owners of record. The map laid out about 780 small lots. About 80 parcels inside it have buildings today.

About

Living in Lake Manor

No single builder developed the area. Homes went up one lot at a time, and most of the roughly 430 county parcels inside the old map still have no building, so open hillside separates many of the houses. The 1926 owners did not dedicate the map's drives and trails to public use. More homes sit just east of the Annex along Thompson Avenue, Dennis Way and La Gross Way, and the community continues south across the county line.

Ventura County governs this side, which falls in Supervisorial District 4, the Simi Valley Unified School District and CAL FIRE's State Responsibility Area for wildfire protection. Accounts of the Simi Hills' history also note Chumash pictograph sites near Lake Manor.

The lay of the land

Rocky Simi Hills terrain at the county line, with homes scattered among many empty hillside lots; closer to Chatsworth than to central Simi Valley

Map makers use the name two ways here. Some maps put the Ventura County homes under Box Canyon and use "Lake Manor" only for the Los Angeles County side. This page follows the federal place-name record, which lists Chatsworth Lake Manor in both counties.
