Ventu Park
Ventu Park is a hillside neighborhood of about 540 homes along South Ventu Park Road, climbing from Lynn Road toward the ridge above Hidden Valley. Its lots were laid out in 1924 as the Ven-Tu Park Club and Cabin Sites. The five maps were surveyed by Dan S. Miller and filed by J. L. Evans, and the lots were sold as getaway and hunting-cabin sites.

Living in Ventu Park
A 1995 Los Angeles Times profile says a 1923 brochure offered lots for $24 to $100 to Los Angeles and Hollywood buyers. Like many developments of its day, it carried a racial restriction. Many lots were only 25 feet wide, and today 1920s cabins and bungalows stand among larger houses built later. About 160 homes at the lower, northern end are now inside Thousand Oaks, on Maple, Beech, Pepper, Hope and Combs roads, Live Oak Road and a few other streets. The other 380 or so are unincorporated. There, Ventura County's Thousand Oaks Area Plan governs land use and calls out substandard rural roads and gaps in sewer and water service.
By 1995 most homes had city water and sewer. An early-1980s assessment district paid for sewer lines, and the city built a 4-million-gallon underground tank serving Ventu Park and Kelley Estates. The county plan names the Ventu Park Homeowners Association as the group it consults on road improvements. Ventu Park and Southern Ridge open space border the upper streets, and the hillside is rated Very High fire hazard.
The lay of the land
Semi-rural canyon and ridge terrain with narrow, winding roads, oaks and chaparral. Ventu Park and Southern Ridge open space border it. The unincorporated hillside is a State Responsibility Area rated Very High for fire hazard.
Some sources credit Ventu Park with about 1,500 homes. That number comes from a wider area the county drew for a 1998 Ventu Park advisory committee, which takes in neighboring tracts. The 1924 Ventu Park maps hold about 540 homes.
