Living in Deer Ridge
The homes repeat a small set of floor plans. County parcel records put most of them at about 2,070, 2,460, 2,600 or 3,090 square feet, on lots that usually run from half an acre to nearly an acre. The streets have frontier names like Prospector, Comstock, Homestake, Remington and Silverwheel. They are public city streets, with no gate and no homeowners association.
The 1981 maps deeded several lettered parcels to the city. Today the Conejo Open Space Conservation Agency's Deer Ridge open space borders the homes, with a trail access point at the east end of Felton Street and the Los Robles West trailhead on Potrero Road. Wendy Park is a short walk north on American Oaks Avenue, and Banyan Park and Banyan Elementary are just west along Erinlea Avenue. Most lots sit in a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone.
The lay of the land
Large-lot homes from the late 1980s on short streets with frontier names, bordered by the Deer Ridge open space. Most lots fall in a Very High fire hazard zone.
Deer Ridge is also the name of the Conejo Open Space Conservation Agency's open space next to these homes. The neighborhood name comes from local real-estate usage, not from the recorded tract, which is filed only as Tract 2808.
