About

Living in Cameo

Realtors call it Cameo Homes, and sales records file it as Cameo. Most of its 151 lots are about 8,000 square feet. County records put most of the houses at one of five sizes between about 1,450 and 2,200 square feet, and a few enlarged homes reach about 2,700. There is no homeowners association, and the streets became public when the county approved the maps.

The 1963 maps set aside a 9.1-acre school lot at Michael Drive and Redfield Avenue, and the EARThS magnet school stands there now. The area stayed unincorporated until Thousand Oaks annexed it, together with the Sequoia campus, in December 1980. Newbury Gateway Park is a short walk east along Michael Drive.

The lay of the land

Early-1960s blocks of single-family homes on lots of about 8,000 square feet. The streets wrap around a school lot that is now the EARThS campus, Sequoia Middle School is next door, and Newbury Gateway Park is a short walk east.

One realtor guide puts Cameo at about 200 homes. This page counts the 151 house lots on the two 1963 tract maps. Deerwalk and Eagleview places to the east (Tract 2517, 1977) and Nellie Court to the west (Tract 2657, 1978) were mapped later as separate subdivisions and are not included.
