Westlake Island

Westlake Island is the gated island neighborhood in Westlake Lake, reached by La Venta Drive and split by the Los Angeles–Ventura county line. Its roughly 320 waterfront homes sit on two recorded tracts. American-Hawaiian Steamship Company filed a 1967 map for the Westlake Village side, built mostly 1967–72. Two 1971 maps for the Thousand Oaks side came from that company's partnership with Prudential, and those homes were built mostly 1974–78.

About

Living in Westlake Island

The county line crosses the island on a diagonal. About 140 homes on Oakshore Drive, La Venta Drive and the Whitesail, Mariner, Freshwind and Fairbreeze circles are in the City of Westlake Village, in Los Angeles County. About 180 more, on East Oakshore Drive, La Venta Drive and the Eastwind, Redsail, Westwind, Bluesail and Southwind circles, are in the City of Thousand Oaks, in Ventura County. The line also separates the Las Virgenes and Conejo Valley school districts.

Lots are compact, mostly 5,300 to 6,800 square feet, but nearly all of them back onto the lake, and private boat docks are part of daily life here. County assessor records put most houses at about 2,000 to 4,000 square feet, from original 1960s and '70s homes to newer rebuilds. Entry is gated, and local real estate guides describe a guard on duty around the clock. PMP Management runs the Westlake Island HOA's website and owner portal.
