About

Living in Lakeshore

The homes stand in buildings of several units, and each sits on its own lot of roughly 3,000 square feet. County assessor records list them at about 1,300 to 2,550 square feet with two to four bedrooms; three is most common. Local agents describe two community beaches and boat slips for residents, and some homes on the water have their own docks. Remodeled homes sit next to largely original ones.

The name is official as well as local. Lakeshore began as a Los Angeles County landscape maintenance district that the city took over in 1990. Today it is Zone 3 of the city's landscaping district, which pays for the plantings in the lanes' medians and cul-de-sacs and assesses 284 homes. The north end meets the county line, with Thousand Oaks on the other side. Berniece Bennett Park is across Lakeview Canyon Road in the First Neighborhood.

The lay of the land

Late-1960s attached lake homes on short water-named lanes, with community beaches along the shore and homes in every state from original to fully remodeled

Some agent pages put Lakeshore at about 100 homes. The city's landscaping district and county assessor records both count 284 homes across the four Lakeshore tracts. The two-bedroom condominiums at the north end of Lake Harbor Lane and on Watergate Road (Tract 28287, built 1971) are a separate complex and are not counted here.
