About

Living in Old Agoura

The city treats it as a place apart. The General Plan calls for keeping Old Agoura's large lots, rustic look and room for horses and other farm animals, along with its country streets, which have no sidewalks, curbs, gutters or streetlights, and its equestrian trails. An Old Agoura overlay zone adds design guidelines against overbuilding, and most homes still rely on septic systems. The median single-family lot is about three-quarters of an acre.

A small multi-family pocket sits on lower Colodny Drive between Canwood Street and Driver Avenue, with a few buildings on Driver Avenue and Chesebro Road: eight condo tracts built from 1979 to 2006, plus several small apartment buildings. Old Agoura Park on Chesebro Road has a ballfield, playground and public riding arena, and the Old Agoura Homeowners group works to keep the area's rural way of life.

The lay of the land

Semi-rural and equestrian. City policy keeps the streets free of sidewalks, curbs, gutters and streetlights, and riding trails run along many of them. Most homes are on septic systems. Houses range widely in age, size and style.

Boundaries and home counts here follow the City of Agoura Hills' Old Agoura (OA) overlay zone, which also takes in the business strip on both sides of US 101.
