Living in Liberty Canyon
Liberty Canyon was one of the first three housing tracts in what became Agoura Hills, along with Hillrise and Lake Lindero. The original core holds about 231 detached houses, mostly with three or four bedrooms, on Patrick Henry Place, Jim Bowie Road, Provident Road, Defender Drive and nearby streets. Most of them were finished between 1970 and 1973. Two condominium complexes near Agoura Road, Liberty Canyon Townhomes and Rondell Condominiums, added 251 homes in 1973 and 1975. Later tracts filled in the south and east: Freetown Lane in 1985, then Griffin Homes' Liberty Parkside and Revere Way in 1989. The large houses of Heritage View Estates followed between 1989 and 1996, Parkview Court in 1997, and seven estate homes at the gated Ranch in 2019.
Every address uses the 91301 ZIP code and most read Agoura Hills, but four of the later tracts, about 85 homes, are in unincorporated Los Angeles County. The Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing is a planted bridge over the 101 and Agoura Road at Liberty Canyon, scheduled to open to wildlife on December 2, 2026. The state's 2025 hazard map puts most of the neighborhood in a Very High fire hazard severity zone. Several tract maps also list who held the old oil and mineral rights under the land, and the names match well-known Hollywood figures of the 1960s, among them Lloyd Bridges, Aaron Spelling and Dennis Weaver.
