About

Living in Wildwood

Potrero Homes was a joint venture whose partners included Janss Potrero Corp. It recorded Tract 1922-1 in February 1967, while the land was still unincorporated. By the time the second unit was recorded that July, the land was inside the city. A 1969 advertisement offered three- to five-bedroom homes from $31,950. W.R. Grace Properties added the Wildflower streets in 1976–79. Smaller tracts by Davidon Homes, Watt Pacific, Marlborough Development and others filled in through 1999, and the city still lists the area as Specific Plan 1.

Wildwood Regional Park covers more than 1,700 acres of canyon, creek and volcanic ridge, and it serves as the neighborhood's backyard. The main entrance is at the west end of Avenida de los Arboles. Trails lead to the 70-foot Paradise Falls, Lizard Rock and the Teepee Overlook, and neighborhood trailheads open off Velarde Drive, San Miguel Circle and Briar Bluff Court. Wildwood Elementary stands where the Chumash village of Yitimasɨh once was.
