Living in Shadow Oaks

The first maps were filed while the area was still unincorporated Ventura County. County assessor records show living areas clustered at 1,791, 1,961, 2,085, 2,182 and 2,383 square feet, on lots of roughly 9,000 to 11,000 square feet. Many street names are English places: Norwich, Suffolk, Dover, Wakefield, Somerset. There is no active HOA, and the city lists the old Central Thousand Oaks HOA as disbanded. Twenty-nine newer homes on June Court and Feather Avenue followed in 1977.

Acacia Magnet School for Enriched Learning is in the middle of the neighborhood on West Norman Avenue. Redwood Middle School is on West Gainsborough Road at the western edge, and the entrance to Conejo Community Park is on Hendrix Avenue. Labisco Hill Open Space is just across Janss Road at Moorpark Road, and Thousand Oaks High School is a short way north on Moorpark. Shadow Oaks Place, a street about a mile and a half east, is not part of this neighborhood.
