Greenwich Village

Greenwich Village is a central Thousand Oaks neighborhood just east of Moorpark Road, laid out along East Hillcrest Drive between Thousand Oaks Boulevard and Paige Lane Neighborhood Park. Its lots come from a subdivision map recorded in 1924. Most of its roughly 620 single-family houses, though, were built between the 1950s and 1980s, filling in gradually rather than as one builder's tract.

About

Living in Greenwich Village

Assessor records show how that happened. Only a handful of houses are older than 1950, and about half date from the 1960s, when long stretches of Glen Oaks Road, Vinton Court and Brossard Drive went up within a year or two. Most of Masterson Drive followed in 1979 and 1980. A typical house is about 1,300 square feet on a lot of roughly 6,300 square feet. Paige Lane and Wilbur Court carry estate zoning and have somewhat larger lots. South of the boulevard, a second 1924 map, Greenwich Village No. 2, holds offices, shops and the 26 newer homes of Jensen Court.

Paige Lane Neighborhood Park, about 14 acres beside Conejo Creek, borders the neighborhood to the north and has a playground, courts and walking paths. On the east edge, lots mapped for housing in 1987 became the city-owned La Jolla Open Space, which volunteers have since replanted with oaks. Glenwood Elementary, Acacia Magnet School and Colina Middle School are nearby. On the boulevard, the city has approved a 328-unit apartment and retail project at 500 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd.
