Living in Mountclef Village
The neighborhood grew in layers. The college's 1962 tract was recorded while the area was still unincorporated. It paired large campus lots with more than 60 home lots on Faculty Road and three side streets. About 34 houses stand there now, built from 1963 into the early 1980s. North of Olsen, Tract 1680 added about 190 houses in the mid-1960s. Later maps filled the remaining gaps: Fallen Oaks and Autumn Leaf drives (1976), the Northoaks condominiums and Cambria Court (1984–85), Watt Pacific's homes on Meadowrun Street and Crossridge Court (1993–95), and Whitman Court (2005).
The name traces to the ridge above. Mount Clef Ridge honors the California Lutheran Education Foundation, or CLEF, which worked to establish the college in the 1950s. The 217-acre Mt. Clef Ridge Open Space now protects the ridge from the Norwegian Grade on Moorpark Road west to Wildwood Park. Its trails look over the Conejo and Santa Rosa valleys, and the slopes shelter two sensitive plants, Lyon's pentachaeta and Conejo dudleya. Spring Meadow Park sits just south of Olsen Road. Weathersfield Elementary, Redwood Middle and Thousand Oaks High are among the nearby public schools.
