About

Living in Conejo Village (Eichler Homes)

The Eichlers sit on two recorded maps. Tract 1529-1 was filed in November 1963 with Eichler Homes, Inc. as owner and holds 71 of them. Tract 1529-2 was filed a year later, and about 32 more Eichlers stand there, mostly on Campbell and Stoddard avenues. The rest of that second map was built out in 1970–71 with larger, often two-story houses that are not Eichlers. The Eichler Network calls this one of the last subdivisions built before Joe Eichler sold his company. It describes homes designed by Jones & Emmons and by Claude Oakland, including double-gable and atrium models.

There is no active homeowners association; the city's HOA map shows the old Central Thousand Oaks HOA here as disbanded. In 2014, neighbors led the effort to install the 'Eichler Homes' monument sign at Lynn Road and Camino Manzanas. The Tarantula Hill open space is right next door, and Conejo Community Park is less than a mile southeast. Madroña Academy of the Arts and Sciences, Aspen Elementary and Redwood Middle School are all nearby.

The lay of the land

Five short streets of mid-century Eichlers in a small canyon below Tarantula Hill. Neighbors put up an 'Eichler Homes' monument sign in 2014 where Camino Manzanas meets Lynn Road.

Real-estate sites often use the 'Eichler Homes' label for the whole Tract 1529 area. That area also holds about 64 larger houses, many of them two-story, that were built in 1970–71 and are not Eichlers. County records date the Eichler-era houses to 1964–66.
