Campus Park

Campus Park is the group of tracts around Moorpark College in the city's northeast corner, between SR-118 and the hills. The name traces to Campus Park, Ltd., which filed one of the first maps in 1972. Developers including Metropolitan Development, Alvin Dick's Varsity Park companies and Griffin Homes built more than 1,900 homes here between 1973 and 1997.

About

Living in Campus Park

The city's Housing Element calls this the College Neighborhood and points to its mix of housing types. The oldest streets, Campus Park East and West, have single-story 1970s homes on university-named streets. Along Campus Park Drive, the Varsity Park communities add attached homes, next to the Varsity Park Village condominiums, which this guide covers separately. Park Glen, Varsity Park Estates and Campus Hills have larger two-story houses.

Three city parks serve the area: Campus Park on Harvard Street, College View Park on Campus Park Drive, and Campus Canyon Park in Campus Hills. Campus Canyon College Preparatory Academy and The High School at Moorpark College are nearby. Ventura County approved the tracts mapped before mid-1983, because Moorpark did not become a city until that year.

The lay of the land

The older southern streets are named for universities, from Harvard and Stanford to Purdue and Tulane, and are lined with single-story 1970s houses. The attached homes and condos of the Varsity Park communities sit along Campus Park Drive. Two-story tracts from the late 1980s and 1990s climb the hills west and north of the college. The freeway and the terrain set the area apart from the rest of town.

Campus Park is also the name of the city park at 6400 Harvard Street. Several sub-area names (Campus Park East and West, Varsity Park Patio Homes, Varsity Park Highlands) are informal real-estate names that are not used consistently. The county tract numbers are the firmer reference.
