Living in Meridian Hills
Most of the 248 houses in Tract 5187 stand on private streets behind keypad gates at Ridgemark Drive and Breezy Glen Drive. The tract was recorded as two map units covering about 630 acres in all, and much of that land is open space under city conservation and trail easements. Seventeen smaller homes on Rangewood Court (Tract 5405) sit outside the gates on a public street beside Walnut Canyon Road.
In spring 2005, crews grading the site found the bones of a southern mammoth in soil about a million years old. The "Moorpark Mammoth" is now at the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History. A city landscape district (District 20) keeps up the slopes, medians, bio-swales and detention basins. Its 2026-27 rate of $1,648.28 per home is the highest in the city's engineer's report.
The lay of the land
Curving private hillside streets of detached homes behind keypad gates, landscaped slopes kept up by a city landscape district, and wide open-space lots around the edges. One small public cul-de-sac, Rangewood Court, sits outside the gates.
Tract 5187-1 and 5187-2 are the county's two recording units for one gated community under one HOA. Residents generally do not use the unit numbers as separate neighborhood names.
