Moorpark Unified serves Moorpark families from preschool through adult school. The state counted 5,506 students in the district in October 2025, a figure that includes a small charter school. The district runs five elementary schools, one K–8 school (Campus Canyon), two middle schools and two high schools: Moorpark High, its comprehensive high school, and The High School at Moorpark College, which students apply to.

Each elementary school has its own focus. Families can stay at their attendance-area school or apply each winter to a different one, but the district does not bus students who transfer.

Which MUSD schools serve an address?

Type a street address. The answer comes from MUSD's list of schools, and links MUSD's own locator to confirm.

MUSD publishes attendance areas only through its locator, so its area is shaded whole; type an address to check it. Dashed lines are district boundaries. Point at an area for its name, or tap anywhere for the schools there.

How assignment works

How schools are assigned

Students are assigned to elementary and middle schools by attendance area; the district also calls this the neighborhood or boundary school. To find yours, the district points families to its online School Locator/Boundary Maps tool, run by PowerSchool, or to the Enrollment Center at (805) 378-6300, extension 1525. Students who enroll at their own attendance-area school do not need to fill out a choice application.

Being in an attendance area does not guarantee a seat. The district asks families to register early, because once a school is full, new students may be placed at another school with open seats. Students who enroll after a school, grade or classroom fills go on a waiting list. All school and teacher assignments stay tentative until enrollment is counted in the first days of the school year, and decisions about who moves weigh the enrollment date, transportation and the needs of specialized classes.

For high school, the district lists two options. Moorpark High School is the comprehensive high school for grades 9–12. The High School at Moorpark College is a middle college that students enter by application. High school registration is done at the campus itself, not through the online TK–8 enrollment system.

Choosing a school

Choosing a different school

Elementary (TK–5): The district calls its six elementary-level schools 'Schools of Choice', each with its own focus. Families can apply to a school outside their attendance area during an open enrollment period each winter, ranking up to three schools. New students must finish online registration first; current students submit just the choice application.

For 2026–27 the window ran January 20 to February 20, 2026, and later applications went on a waiting list. Flory and Walnut Canyon, which the district calls open-enrollment magnet schools, fill their seats by lottery. Results went out March 27, 2026, and all other approved transfers were announced June 18, 2026.

Siblings get priority to attend the same school when space allows. Students not placed stay on a waiting list and are contacted in August if a seat opens. Once accepted, a student can stay through fifth grade without reapplying.

The district keeps the right to make final decisions based on space, diversity and class sizes. Middle school (6–8): Families request a different middle school with a Parental Choice Transfer Request. For 2026–27 the form opened January 20, 2026 and was due March 13, 2026, with answers by May 1, 2026.

Students who live in a school's boundary have priority, requests depend on space and balance, and fifth graders at a choice school must apply again for sixth grade. At every level, parents must drive their child to a school outside their attendance area. The 2027–28 dates had not been posted as of October 19, 2026.

Transfers & enrolling

Transfers and enrollment

Coming from (or leaving for) another district

Families who live outside the district fill out an Interdistrict Transfer Agreement and submit it to their home district first. Include the latest transcript or report card, behavior and attendance reports, any IEP or 504 plan, and documents supporting the reason for the request. The listed reasons are child care, parent employment, sibling, health and safety, specialized program, continuing enrollment, final year and change in residence.

Once the home district approves, the agreement goes to Moorpark Unified at 5297 Maureen Lane for review. When a decision is made, the family and the home district get an email, and the family can then register. Requests for the next school year are accepted starting in January and are reviewed case by case throughout the year.

Families hear back no later than 14 calendar days after the school year starts; requests during the current year are answered within 30 calendar days. An approved transfer lasts through the highest grade at that school, and a new agreement is needed when moving from elementary to middle school and from middle to high school. A transfer can be revoked for poor attendance, behavior or lack of academic effort.

If either district says no, families can appeal to the Ventura County Board of Education.

Enrolling

New students in TK through grade 8 register online through the district's online enrollment module. For 2026–27, registration opened January 20, 2026. Families upload proof of birth (birth certificate, baptismal certificate or passport), proof of residency (a recent utility bill, rental agreement or escrow papers), immunization records and a parent's driver's license or photo ID.

Families sharing a home use a Shared Residence Affidavit with the homeowner's utility bill. Students starting school for the first time need a dental checkup by May 31, 2027. For 2026–27, children had to be 4 by September 1, 2026 for TK and 5 by September 1, 2026 for kindergarten.

Children born between July 1 and September 1, 2021 could choose TK or kindergarten, and children born September 2, 2021 through September 1, 2022 were eligible for TK as space permitted. High school and preschool families register directly with the school. For help, call the Enrollment Center at (805) 378-6300, extension 1525.
