Lake Sherwood Drive
Lake Sherwood Drive is the ungated lakeside neighborhood of unincorporated Lake Sherwood: about 80 homes on the lake's north shore, along a public county road that runs east from Fire Station 33 at Stafford Road. Landowner F. W. Matthiessen Jr. recorded its first lots in 1923, and the houses have gone up one by one in the decades since.

Living in Lake Sherwood Drive
The 1923 maps, the Upson Tract and Upson Tract Addition No. 1, still labeled the water Potrero Lake; the Lake Sherwood name took hold after Douglas Fairbanks filmed Robin Hood there. Most homes still sit on those lots of a quarter to a third of an acre. Two later maps created larger home sites: Tract 4411 in 1993 along the eastern stretch and Tract 4590 in 1998, whose lakefront houses date from the early 2000s. The county's area plan still names lots in the Upson Tract Addition No. 1 in its dwelling-unit limits.
The drive itself has no gate, and there is no master homeowners association. Several older lots show no dues in listings, while the 1998 lakefront lots and a few others pay association fees, and lake and dock rights vary by parcel. Fire Station 33, built in 1949, sits on the shore at the west end and serves as a community center for local events. Nearby public schools include Westlake Elementary, Colina Middle and Westlake High.
The lay of the land
An open public road along the water, where houses from many decades and in many styles sit side by side, many with docks, and the feel is more informal than in the gated enclaves around it.
Mailing addresses here use Thousand Oaks, Westlake Village or Lake Sherwood as the city, but the area is unincorporated Ventura County. The lanes on the lake's south shore (Upper and Lower Lake, Giles and Thorsby roads) are covered on the Sherwood Country Club Estates page.

| Water (Lake Sherwood community) | Ventura County Waterworks District No. 38 It began on March 28, 1989 as the Lake Sherwood Community Services District and became WWD 38 after voters passed Measure N in May 2015. The district covers about 2,048 acres. All of its water comes from the State Water Project. Metropolitan Water District filters and disinfects it at its Jensen plant in Granada Hills, and Calleguas MWD delivers it to the district. The district's 2025 water quality report counts 792 service connections, two reservoirs, two booster pump stations and about 19 miles of water lines, and a 2020 district presentation also lists four pressure-reducing stations. The district runs as an enterprise fund with no tax revenue, so customers' water rates and charges pay all of its costs. The Board of Supervisors is its board of directors, and a citizens' advisory committee, which meets quarterly, reviews policy, budget and rate recommendations before they go to the board. |
| Water (Hidden Valley & Carlisle Canyon) | Private wells Homes here rely on wells. The Hidden Valley Municipal Water District provides recycled water only, not drinking water. In 2020, District 38 staff reported that three Hidden Valley homes whose wells were falling in level and quality had asked to connect to district water through a private line the owners would maintain. The request needed LAFCo action to go forward. The area plan requires a water-availability study for new development in Hidden Valley and Carlisle Canyon. |
